In 2018 we featured the renowned children’s author “Cedella Marley” and the theme “Emotional Intelligence”. We hope you enjoy all the amazing Every Little Thing and Emotional Intelligence inspired artwork, created by the students and teachers of Friends Center for Children (FCfC) and Elm City Montessori School that decorated the 2018 Fair Haven Family Stroll & Festival (FHFS).
Who is Cedella Marley?

Cedella Marley (born 23 August 1967) is a Jamaican singer, dancer, fashion designer, actress, and entrepreneur. She is the first-born daughter of reggae singer Bob Marley whose songs are known the world over for their powerful message of love, peace, and harmony. Cedella lovingly created the picture book “Every Little Thing” from her father’s upbeat and reassuring song “Three Little Birds”, illustrated by Vanessa Brantley-Newton. In this book, children are reminded that the sun will always come up after the rain and mistakes are easily forgiven. A smile will be brought to the faces of all ages through the original song lyrics, song plus new verses—because every little thing’s gonna be all right!
What is Emotional Intelligence?

“RULER is an evidence-based approach for integrating social and emotional learning into schools, developed at the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence. RULER applies ‘hard science’ to the teaching of what have historically been called “soft skills.” RULER teaches the skills of emotional intelligence — those associated with recognizing, understanding, labeling, expressing, and regulating emotion. Decades of research show that these skills are essential to effective teaching and learning, sound decision making, physical and mental health, and success in school and beyond.”
